Performing live, Friday Jan. 13 at our Friday Night Afterparty at the Oriental Theater, we present Wire Faces! No doubt they are one of the hottest bands in Denver right now, and we are very excited to have them as a part of Festivus.
We are so excited to announce we’re going to have our biggest crop of attending filmmakers ever! They are traveling from all over the globe, including Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Australia, and England. Attending filmmakers participate in Q&A’s after their screenings. “What was your budget?” “Where did you get your inspiration?” “Where did you find your cast?”…anything you are dying to know, but never have the chance to find out when you go to see a film. You’ll also find them relaxing in our Filmmaker Lounge (get your VIP Festival pass for access) and mingling at our nightly afterparties. Just look for the “FILMMAKER” tag on their passes!

We’ve made a minor adjustment in the schedule and the WORLD PREMIERE of Lilith will now start 15 minutes earlier, beginning at 3:45 (Saturday, Jan 14 @ The Oriental). We’ve made this minor change to give actress Julia Voth a bit more time for Q&A. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We’re really excited to announce that our schedule has been posted!
To access it, simply click the Schedule/Tix tab.
You can print or email yourself the schedule, or use the Festival Genius.
What is the Festival Genius? It’s like a GPS for the festival. It helps you navigate through the films and pick which ones you want to see. You can add movies to your calendar and keep it as a handy reference guide. About the only thing it won’t do for you is give you directions in an English accent.
Keep checking back for updated info on all our selections.
We are very excited about this and hope you are too!!!
This past Sunday, Denver was host to filmmaker Don Hertzfeldt and the local premiere of his new short, It’s Such a Beautiful Day, which completes his Bill trilogy.
You may have seen the first two installments, Everything Will Be OK and I Am So Proud Of You.
They follow a man named Bill, whose health rapidly deteriorates and life around him begins to make less and less sense. I won’t spoil how the trilogy ends, but I think it turns Bill into one of the most iconic animated characters ever created.
The mix of humor and philosophy is great. The animation looks deceptively simple. While there aren’t a lot of moving parts, Hertzfeldt said that makes each movement even more critical. Placement of the eye just one millimeter over and an expression changes completely. As audiences we’re not conscious of those decisions, but it’s revealing to hear about them. It makes you appreciate the delicacy and elegance behind these animations, which have influenced filmmakers ever since Rejected (2000)
Is Don Hertzfeldt the Walt Disney of our generation with such evocative, 2-D drawings? I think his Bill trilogy makes a compelling case for it.
He is currently touring around the country with the trilogy. Don’t miss it if you have a chance!
During Festivus we encourage you to come hungry! The Über Sausage truck will be around to satisfy your hunger for delicious keilbasas, chicago style hotdogs, brats and more.

No doubt DSLR has really made an impact on the indie filmmaking community. Add in a hand-made 3-axis motion control rig, and you’re really onto something. That’s what Mr. Louvigny did in this absolutely incredible series of timelapses. Oh and then he made the music too. What did YOU do today?!
Check out this interesting commentary from Gregory Bayne over at Filmmaker Magazine. It’s a bit of an introspective about trying to see your own work objectively. As artists, this is something we can all benefit from!
