Documentary Spotlight: 78 Days
Synopsis: In the independent documentary “78 Days”, veteran tree planter, Jason Nardella, follows a reforestation working the northern Alberta swamplands and dealing with a never-ending contract. Veteran planters candidly share their experiences as we watch them struggle through each day of what has become the longest and most difficult season in the company’s 20-year history.
Festivus Recommendation: This documentary looks at a unique lifestyle that seems fun. You get paid well, and enjoy the outdoors for a summer. What’s not to like? Filmmaker Jason Nardella takes a personal, honest approach to his subject that reveals the harsh realities of what 78 days means in the Canadian wilderness. If you crack out here, you’re going to crack in the middle of nowhere with people just as anxious to get out as you are.
